Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was released from prison on Monday after being granted parole last month and will serve the remaining months of his one-year sentence at home.

Thaksin will wear an electronic monitoring bracelet until he completes his sentence, which ends on Sept. 9.

Analysts say Thaksin's release from prison could pave the way for his return to politics and for the Pheu Thai Party, which he founded, to regain popularity.
