Calling all Sunday Silence fans 🗣️ Do you see the family resemblance? This is EQUINOX, a son of Kitasan Black who stands alongside his sire at Shadai Stallion Station in Japan, making him a great-grandson of Sunday Silence.

To say Sunday Silence was a breed-shaping stallion in Japan was an understatement. Not only was he Japan’s leading sire on 13 occasions and its leading broodmare sire eight times, but the American Hall of Famer truly revolutionized and elevated the Thoroughbred breeding and racing industry in Japan with his influence.

To this day, the legacy of Sunday Silence is carried on through his grandsons and now, great-grandsons, including Equinox who is represented by his first yearlings this year. He will have plenty on offer at the JRHA Select Sale at Northern Horse Park, set for Monday, July 13.

“Equinox was such a super racehorse, so now a lot of people are expecting a lot. We have some very good-looking yearlings by him so we are expecting a lot from him also. He seems to be a nice stallion,” said Teruya Yoshida, the mastermind behind the entire Shadai operation.

A JRA Hall of Fame member, JRA Horse of the Year (2022-23), and crowned Longines World’s Best Racehorse for 2023, Equinox retired to stand alongside his sire for a record-breaking opening fee of Y20 million [roughly €124,000] in 2024. He covered a little over 200 mares in that debut season and his first foals took this sale by storm 12 months ago when 23 of them sold for a combined sum of Y3,565,000,000 [a little over €20 million].
