Arizona has confirmed 19 cases of cyclosporiasis as federal officials investigate a major lettuce-linked outbreak across several states. 🥬⚠️

Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that infects the intestines and can cause frequent watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, bloating, fatigue and weight loss. Symptoms can last for weeks and may disappear before returning.

Federal investigators have linked one outbreak to shredded iceberg lettuce served at select Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. As of July 16, that outbreak included 1,644 illnesses, 94 hospitalizations and no reported deaths.

The affected restaurants identified so far are outside Arizona, and officials have not confirmed that Arizona’s 19 cases came from Taco Bell or the same lettuce. Arizona health officials say case numbers in the state remain relatively low.

Would this make you avoid shredded lettuce until investigators know more?
