A Tucson man allegedly admitted to starting several brush fires because he was frustrated by trash left behind in the area.

Crews responded around 10:30 p.m. on May 19 to multiple fires near West Camino del Cerro, close to Ruthrauff Road and I-10. Tucson Fire was joined by Northwest Fire District and Golder Ranch Fire District as crews worked to contain the flames.

According to police records, 59-year-old Thomas Gary Warren admitted starting the fires and allegedly said he did it because of trash left by people experiencing homelessness. He also reportedly admitted starting another fire in the same area on May 13.

Warren was cited on seven misdemeanor counts of reckless burning. No injuries were reported in either incident.

What should the penalty be for intentionally starting brush fires in Arizona?
