Arizona is not getting a no-speed-limit highway after all.

House Bill 2059, known as the RAPID Act, was introduced on December 15, 2025. It would have created daytime “derestricted speed zones” for qualifying non-commercial vehicles on select rural interstates, beginning with part of I-8 between Casa Grande and Yuma.

The bill received its first reading and was assigned to House committees on January 12, 2026. Under the proposal, commercial vehicles would still have been restricted, an 80 mph limit would have applied at night, and drivers would have been required to travel safely for road, traffic and weather conditions.

But on February 9, 2026, the proposal was withdrawn from the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee before receiving a vote.

That means the pilot is not moving forward and Arizona’s current speed limits remain unchanged.
