#SaturdayStorytime - Husa-fell down and can’t get back up!

With the CrossFit games around the corner, this weeks story is a games edition.
2021. We’re back in Madison after a year online. Vibes are high. I’m at hotel reception and I haven’t even had a chance to check in before a young jhopper3 is up in my grill.
This is rookie Jayson, and if you think he’s got confidence now you should have seen him then 😂.
Jay dominated his semi final that year and qualified for the first time to the games and he was CERTAIN he was about to make an impact. I don’t remember the details of the conversation enough to quote unfortunately because I’m sure they were gold, but suffice it to say he was sizing me up and happy to tell me he wasn’t impressed. This is our first ever interaction.
I was a rookie once and I had a big first year, so what one man can do another can do. And truly I love that kind of energy.  I was dead off a full day of travel so I Just told him I was looking forward to my front row seats to see it.
Fast forward to day 2. Husafell workout. Lots of pulling with an odd object. Good workout for me, this was said by at least 1/3 of the field before this event, but I meant it. I’m never one to go into someone’s lane at the finish, but I did get to watch everyone come across and boy howdy, did old hopper look rough… clear meltdown. It’s a Tough watch, but you should go watch it. Iconic. 
I gave my interview and went back to get my stuff and leave the pavilion. wouldn’t ya know it, Jayson had put his bag down right next to mine and was sprawled across, shirt over his face, i believe on the phone with his wife.
Look everyone has a process and needs a moment to reset when things go wrong, and the last guy you wanna see is the guy that just won, but like… I need my bag….
Anyways I awkwardly scooted in, got it and bounced asap, Im not sure how long it took him to get up, he didn’t even look at me. Jay went on to take top 20 overall and obviously has since won the games so we’re allowed to laugh at this now. Especially me because oh buddy I been there. The lows can be low. I hope to channel some hopper confidence next weekend. We should all be so lucky!
