Everyone thought these pictures from the IBJJF Austin Open were about a triangle.

They weren’t.

People always ask me why I love competing so much.

If I’m being honest…

I’d rather compete every weekend than practice every day.

Not because I don’t love training.

Not because I expect to win.

But because, for three minutes…

Everything gets quiet.

The crowd disappears.

The pressure disappears.

The expectations disappear.

It’s one of the only places where my mind is completely still.

That’s what these pictures are really about.

I know most people see a tournament mat.

I see peace.
