Anthony Rizzo will always be one of the greatest Cubs of all time. As the first baseman of the 2016 World Series team, he helped end Chicago’s 108-year championship drought and became one of the most beloved players in franchise history. Even ten years later, Cubs fans continue to celebrate everything he brought to the organization.

Today’s game against the Minnesota Twins was already special before the first pitch. The Cubs welcomed back members of their legendary 2016 World Series team to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the championship. Before the game, Anthony Rizzo, Joe Maddon, Kyle Hendricks, and many other members of that historic team took part in a ceremony honoring one of the greatest moments in franchise history.

Then came a moment no one could have scripted. In the first inning, Cubs first baseman Michael Busch launched a home run into the right-field bleachers. The ball landed right at Anthony Rizzo’s feet, and he picked it up before proudly holding it in the air for the Wrigley Field crowd. It was a perfect full-circle moment—the Cubs’ first baseman of today connecting with the Cubs’ first baseman who helped change the franchise forever. You couldn’t script it any better.
