WE probably related....cesarteolol ⠀Picture it.
⠀Mostly white stadium.
⠀Forty thousand people on their feet for the hometown hero.
⠀And the men with the microphones call you a villain.
⠀Not once.
⠀Over and over.

⠀You are twenty-something.
⠀You are Black.
⠀And there are fewer and fewer of you left in this game.

⠀Jordan Walker walked into that and swung anyway.

⠀He wasn't just hitting baseballs.
⠀He was carrying something.
⠀Hank's dignity under a mountain of hate mail.
⠀Jackie's discipline in a stadium that never asked for him.
⠀Walker channeled all of it and took the title in front of a crowd that had already decided he shouldn't have it.

⠀And then the moment that got me.

⠀They asked him what it's like to swing with forty thousand people booing.
⠀He didn't take the bait.
⠀He said he was raised never to boo anybody.

⠀Read that again.

⠀That is not a sports answer.
⠀That is a home-training answer.
⠀That is somebody's mama and somebody's granddaddy speaking through a young man on national television.

⠀Let me be clear about where my critique lands.
⠀Not on him.
⠀Not on the fans as individuals.
⠀On the framing.
⠀On a booth that cast a young Black man as the villain of the story and all but handed the trophy to somebody else before the last swing.
⠀On a sport that keeps shrinking the number of Black players in it and then wonders why the pipeline dried up.

⠀Modern sports doesn't know how not to boo.
⠀It's a zero-sum game now.
⠀One winner and contempt for everybody else.

⠀Walker showed another way.
⠀Taught with the bat.
⠀Then taught with his words.

⠀Class act.
⠀Did you see it?
