Quarterback transfer Ashton Daniels hasn’t been the model of consistency throughout his collegiate career at Stanford and Auburn, where he has recorded 4,783 yards with 24 touchdowns and 22 interceptions through the air with 1,401 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.

Daniels was behind Jackson Arnold for much of the 2025 season, but showcased his skill set in a two-game sample size against Vanderbilt and Alabama.

During those contests, Daniels had 809 total yards with five touchdowns. It is a dangerous time to invest with the veteran over a small sample size. However, Florida State has had six losing seasons in eight years, so the desperation has showed.

The Seminoles already brought in a transfer quarterback in Thomas Castellanos last season. It started out well in the opener against the Alabama Crimson Tide, but it fizzled out late where Florida State lost seven of its last nine games. The program hasn’t been strangers with investing in transfer quarterbacks, as they secured pieces like McKenzie Milton and DJ Uiagalelei.

Miami has had their good luck with transfer quarterbacks with Deriq King, Cam Ward, Carson Beck, and now Darian Mensah, so it can be viewed as successful to rely on the portal for the options. However, the right pieces have to be in place for the signal-callers to be in the best position with strong offensive trenches and dynamic playmakers.

Florida State also has young quarterbacks on the roster, such as Kevin Sperry, Malachi Marshall, and Jaden O’Neal, that are waiting for their opportunity in the near future.
