The Met Police are appealing for information after a 37-year-old man was stabbed yesterday evening on Weir Road in Balham. Their statement reads:

“Police were called at 19.36hrs on Saturday, 18 July to reports of an attack on Weir Road. Officers were on the scene within three minutes where a man was found with multiple stab wounds.

“They provided immediate medical attention before he was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

“The suspect had left the scene before police arrived, after he was chased by members of the public. No arrests have been made at this time. Enquiries remain ongoing.

“Detective Superintendent Gareth Gilbert, whose team is leading the investigation, said: 

“This was a shocking and brutal attack, carried out in broad daylight on a residential street.

“Our officers are working quickly to identify and arrest the attacker and it is imperative that anyone with information should come forward immediately.

“We recognise this incident will be deeply disturbing to the local community and want to reassure residents that they can expect to see an increased number of officers in the area over the coming days.

“We would also like to pay tribute to the members of the public who bravely chased the suspect away from the scene while he was still armed.” Repost • @balhamnewsie
