"They're gonna annihilate the world."

That was Alan McGee's reaction after seeing Oasis play to a tiny crowd at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow. Around seven people were in the room, but McGee saw something nobody else did. He signed them to Creation Records on the spot, a decision that changed British music forever.

The band's first recording sessions were chaotic. Drummer Tony McCarroll admits they weren't the most consistent in the studio, and there was uncertainty over what their debut single should be.

Then inspiration struck.

While the rest of the band went for a Chinese takeaway, Noel Gallagher stayed behind in the studio. By the time they'd finished eating, he'd written "Supersonic." The band recorded it that night, mixed it, and suddenly had the song that announced Oasis to the world.

When Supersonic was released, fans were already singing back lyrics Noel had written in a matter of minutes during a late-night burst of inspiration. From that moment, there was no turning back.

The success came fast, and so did the chaos. Hotel rooms were trashed, the stories became legendary, and the band embraced every second of it. As Liam later summed it up: "You're only 21 once. You're going to live it to the full."

The rest, as they say, is rock 'n' roll history.
