This would be one of the biggest blockbuster trades of the NBA offseason. The Charlotte Hornets move on from LaMelo Ball to De’Aaron Fox, while the San Antonio Spurs pair Victor Wembanyama with one of the NBA’s best sixth men, Naz Reid.

Charlotte spent years building around LaMelo, but injuries have gotten in the way. With Brandon Miller, Kon Knueppel, Tidjane Salaün, Mark Williams, Collin Sexton, and a talented young core. Fox would change that immediately. The NBA All-Star became one of the league’s fastest and most dangerous guards after starring at the University of Kentucky and spending most of his career with the Sacramento Kings with Domantas Sabonis, Malik Monk, Keegan Murray, Kevin Huerter, Harrison Barnes, DeMar DeRozan, and others. His rim pressure, pace, and playmaking could reshape Charlotte’s identity while adding Boston’s 2028 first-round pick and the Clippers’ 2029 second-round pick. Victor Wembanyama is one of the NBA’s future faces after winning Rookie of the Year. The SA Spurs built around him with De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson, Harrison Barnes, and a young core, but adding Naz Reid would give Gregg Popovich another matchup nightmare.

Reid is an NBA success stories. Undrafted out of LSU, he developed into the league’s best backup center with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Alongside Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert, Jaden McDaniels, Mike Conley, and Donte DiVincenzo, he can shoot, rebound, handle the ball, and score. His versatility next to Wemby can be one of the NBA’s most skilled frontcourts. Charlotte gets an NBA All-Star point guard in his prime to pair with Brandon Miller instead of wondering if LaMelo can stay healthy. The Hornets give up their former franchise basketball player for a floor general and extra draft capital. The SA Spurs sacrifice an elite point guard to build a bigger, more versatile roster around Wembanyama. It’s one of the trades where you can make a strong case for both sides.
