The Atlanta Falcons have one of the NFL’s most fascinating quarterback situations. Michael Penix Jr. was drafted eighth overall to be the future of the franchise. The expectation was that he’d eventually replace Kirk Cousins, with Atlanta believing his arm talent, confidence, and ability to push the ball downfield could solve its long-term quarterback problem. But now Tua Tagovailoa is in the picture, and nothing feels certain.

Tua has already proven he can lead an NFL offense. With the Miami Dolphins, he threw to Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Jonnu Smith, De’Von Achane, and Raheem Mostert under Head Coach Mike McDaniel. Before that, he became a College Football legend at the University of Alabama alongside future NFL players DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, Najee Harris, Josh Jacobs, Brian Robinson Jr., and Alex Leatherwood. Penix starred at Indiana University before transferring to the University of Washington, where he became one of college football’s most explosive quarterbacks. Throwing to Rome Odunze, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Jalen McMillan, he led Washington to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game and established himself as one of the nation’s best deep-ball passers.

Now both quarterbacks are competing for an Atlanta offense loaded with talent. The Falcons feature Bijan Robinson, Drake London, Kyle Pitts, Darnell Mooney, Ray-Ray McCloud III, plus an offensive line led by Chris Lindstrom, Jake Matthews, and Kaleb McGary. Defensively, they have A.J. Terrell Jr., Jessie Bates III, Kaden Elliss, Leonard Floyd, and Jalon Walker.
