Thankfully, our pluff mud-inspired dessert doesn’t smell (or taste) like the real stuff. Instead, consider these whipped layer bars our caramel-drizzled tribute to the Lowcountry’s most authentic welcome banner. Ingredients: - Cooking spray - 12 full graham cracker sheets, broken into pieces (about 1 3/4 cups crumbs) - 1/2 cup chopped toasted pecans - 6 Tbsp. (3 oz.) unsalted butter, melted - 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar - 1/4 tsp. kosher salt - 1 (3.9-oz.) pkg. instant chocolate pudding and pie filling mix - 3 1/4 cups cold whole milk, divided - 1 (8-oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened, divided - 2 (8-oz.) containers frozen whipped topping, thawed, divided - 1 (3.4-oz.) pkg. instant vanilla pudding and pie filling mix - 1 (13.4-oz.) can dulce de leche, divided - 2 Tbsp. salted caramel sauce Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat a 13- x 9-inch baking dish with cooking spray. 2. Pulse graham cracker pieces and pecans in a food processor until coarsely ground, 10 to 15 pulses. Transfer 3 tablespoons of the crumb mixture to a small bowl; set aside for topping. Add melted butter, sugar, and salt to remaining crumb mixture in food processor; pulse until moist crumbs form, about 10 pulses. Press crumb mixture firmly and evenly into bottom of prepared baking dish. 3. Bake in preheated oven until crust lightly toasted, about 10 minutes. Remove from oven and cool completely, about 20 minutes. 4. Whisk together chocolate pudding mix and 2 cups of the milk in a medium bowl until smooth and thickened, about 2 minutes. In a separate medium bowl, beat 4 ounces of the cream cheese with a hand mixer on medium speed until smooth, about 1 minute. Add chocolate pudding mixture to cream cheese; beat until fully incorporated and smooth, about 1 minute. Fold in 1/4 cup of the whipped topping. Spread evenly over cooled crust. Chill until partially set, about 15 minutes. 5. Whisk together vanilla pudding mix and remaining 1 1/4 cups milk in a medium bowl until smooth and thickened, about 2 minutes. In a separate medium bowl, beat remaining 4 ounces cream cheese with a hand mixer on medium speed until smooth, about 1 minute. Beat in 1 cup of the dulce de leche until fully incorporated. Add vanilla pudding mixture; beat until fully smooth, about 1 minute. Gently fold in 2 cups of the whipped topping in 2 additions until mixture is light and fluffy, about 1 minute. Carefully spread dulce de leche mixture evenly over chocolate layer in baking dish. Chill until partially set, about 15 minutes. 6. Stir remaining dulce de leche (about 1/3 cup) and 1/2 cup of the whipped topping together in a medium bowl until combined. Fold in remaining 1 1/2 cups whipped topping in 2 additions until light and fluffy. Spoon mixture over dulce de leche mixture in baking dish, spreading and swirling gently. Cover and chill until fully set, at least 6 hours or up to 12 hours. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture. #easyrecipe #desserts #lowcountry #dessert #treatyourself
