As a person who plays tennis for almost 3 years and still learning there are some things I would do differently to be able to speed up learning process. 📝

1. Practice at least twice a week. There was some period of time when I was playing once a week but it felt more like supporting current level rather than skill development. 📈

2. Try to get the most from your coach. Whether you train individually or in a group, do not shy away of asking questions. Different coaches have different approaches in teaching. If it’s not your style, it’s best for you to keep looking. 🙋‍♀️

3. Do not stress too much about racquet and gear. Buy a lightweight racquet. It can be even a used one. Brand doesn’t really matter, but characteristics do. Buy new shoes. They don’t have to be expensive, just shoes for tennis and a surface you play the most. 👟

4. Do not limit yourself to working only with a coach. Find a tennis sparing partner to hit the ball. Repetitions are important, but playing with other people increases your adaptability, spot decisions making, tactical thinking. 👯‍♀️

5. Same goes for participating in tournaments. You might never be ready, but it’s a great experience and learning opportunity too. It trains your focus, resilience and ability to play under pressure. It took me 2 years to find courage 😅🏆

6. Good footwork and agility will make charms to your game. As soon as you learned backhand and forehand you will feel more natural and confident reaching every ball if you apply proper footwork. 👣

7. Control over power. Focus on where you direct the ball and how you do it. Power will come with time. Worth saying extra power will just exhaust you sooner than later. 💥

8. Watch tennis. People usually like to play rather than watch which is fine, but I think it’s also a learning experience just to see how the strokes look like, how players move, what decisions they make. 🎾

Even through I’ve been playing tennis for 3 years, I am still learning. However it doesn’t mean you will need to spend 3 years to reach the same level. On the contrary 😉
