## Caption

Fort Hood leaders marked the beginning of a new chapter in Soldier housing July 8 by launching the first phase of a $74 million project to replace two aging barracks with a modern facility designed to improve quality of life for junior-enlisted Soldiers.

The project will demolish buildings 10006 and 10008 on Old Ironsides Avenue, which were constructed in 1952, and replace them with a single barracks capable of housing 224 Soldiers. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2029 and is the first at Fort Hood to use the Army’s Repair by Replacement authority, which allows older facilities to be demolished and rebuilt rather than renovated.
