SPEAK YOUR TRUTH 🗣💭⁣

TO BE HUMAN IS TO SHARE. Far too often, we hold ourselves back from expressing our needs because we are afraid to be vulnerable. 🙈⁣
⁣
This past weekend, I was at a friend’s birthday party. At the beginning of the party, he said to the group that he really needed love and wished for us to send it to him. I’ll be honest, at first I judged him harshly. I thought to myself “How could he be so vulnerable and admit this out loud?” I felt so much shame for him. It made me extremely uncomfortable. ⁣
⁣
But as the night went on, I started to realize something: behind his wish to receive love, there was a deep, profound sadness. He REALLY needed it. And I was in a position to give it to him, so what was stopping me? He is my friend, after all. 🤔⁣
⁣
And that’s when it hit me: the reason I was so quick to judge him and WHY I was so uncomfortable by him asking for love was because that it was the same part of me that did not love about myself. That’s why it made me so uncomfortable. 😱⁣
⁣
Once I realized this, I worked through it. And then I was able to send my friend the love he needed. ❤️💙💜⁣
⁣
The fact that my friend was able to be so vulnerable and ask for love was a gift to the group: I wasn’t the only person who it made uncomfortable. It resonated with a lot of us and it invited us to explore the parts of ourselves we didn’t love. In him being courageous and asking for what he needed, he not only was able to RECEIVE IT, but also in speaking his truth, he gave us all a chance to look inward and shed light on the darker sides of ourselves. ⁣
⁣
Moreover, if you don’t speak your truth, you’re doing the world a DISSERVICE: the human experience is all about sharing, and through listening to others, we in turn, are able to learn about and love ourselves.🙏❤️⁣
⁣
So next time you need some extra love or support, ASK FOR IT. You cannot have your needs met if people don’t know about it. Plus, in sharing, you are giving others a gift. 🎁 ⁣
