While you're being told to recycle more & use paper straws to save the planet, the world’s richest 0.01% are wrecking it not only through their lavish lifestyles but also their ownership-based emissions.⁣

A new Greenpeace Africa report found that the world’s richest 0.01% are associated with about US$992 billion worth of climate damage in 2022 alone through ownership-based emissions. These are emissions linked to the companies, investments and assets wealthy people own and profit from.⁣
⁣
Meanwhile ordinary people are left to deal with floods, heatwaves and rising costs that keep getting worse, and ownership-based emissions linked to extreme wealth remain largely ignored.⁣

The planet is overheating and the wrong people are getting the bill.⁣

Enough is enough. ⁣

Governments must act to ensure that those most responsible pay their fair share for the damage they have caused.⁣
