Yesterday, BTM had the pleasure of spending the day at Queen’s Club, taking part in a number of inspiring events and conversations focused on opening tennis up to more people.

In the morning, our female mentors attended the LTA She Rallies event, bringing together female coaches to discuss the challenges facing women in sport and how we can increase the visibility, representation and retention of girls and women within coaching.

Our Level 1 Coach Mentee, Amira, said “my biggest takeaway was learning how many girls drop out of sport during their teenage years while their brothers continue, and has inspired me to create environments where girls want to stay in tennis long term”.

In the afternoon, our founders Bee and Arum met with Kerry Tavrou, Head of Inclusion & Diversity at Tennis Australia, and Dave Hardman, LTA EDI Strategy Manager, to share insights from BTM’s work and explore how similar approaches could support Tennis Australia’s inclusion journey.

We then had the privilege of being part of Alexis Simms’ (LTA EDI Development Partner) Black & Asian Coaches Network Gathering, celebrating the incredible work Black and Asian coaches are doing to open tennis up to more communities. Arum was honoured to give a short speech on how BTM is supporting the LTA’s Ethnically Diverse Communities Plan through our Coach Education pathway, mentorship programme and community initiatives such as Back It.

Our coach mentors also enjoyed being part of the event, supporting the network while watching world-class tennis at Queen’s. And to put the icing on the cake… we even got to watch Serena practice! 🐐

Days like yesterday remind us that creating a more inclusive sport requires action at every level, from mentoring the next generation to influencing strategy and building communities where everyone feels they belong.

The work continues. 🙏🏾🎾
