Once the defining style of grass court tennis… now almost gone.

In the era of John McEnroe, it was everywhere.
First serve in → straight to the net → put pressure instantly 😮‍💨

Then came Pete Sampras.
Still dominant with it, especially at Wimbledon, using serve + volley as a weapon to finish points before they even started 🧠💥

But as courts slowed down, rackets evolved, and returners got stronger… the style started disappearing.

By the modern era? Almost no one plays it full-time anymore.

Even on grass, where it used to thrive, players now prefer to build from the baseline instead of rushing the net.

The game didn’t just change… it evolved out of it.

Serve and volley isn’t gone because it stopped working.
It’s gone because everything else got better at defending it 😳
