“Even in our broken places, we’re still beautiful because we’re strong at our broken places,” says Jennifer Thompson, explaining the Japanese practice of kintsugi, meaning “golden repair.” Thompson founded Healing Justice, a nonprofit organization that brings together survivors of crimes, like sexual assault and rape, wrongfully convicted people, and family members— all from different cases— for a three-day retreat to help heal the deep wounds caused when the justice system gets it wrong. Through writing exercises, group discussions, and art therapy, participants speak about their pain, process their own feelings, and better understand each other. #kintsugi #healing
