## Caption

The neon glow of the historic Brass Ass sign has cast a red hue on Newport passersby for decades. 

Despite the rust and occasional faulty lighting on the sign, it served as a throwback to the city's risque days of gambling and the mob.

Now that the city owns the former strip club – part of a nine-parcel, $3.8 million acquisition – what's going to happen to the sign and its saucy lit-up donkey?

"That's the most frequent question I have heard," Brian Steffen, Newport's assistant city manager, told The Enquirer. "Our goal is to get it restored."
