From Burgess Park to the USA 🇬🇧➡️🇺🇸

This is a special one! 🥹

A huge congratulations to Jesse Clarkson on signing for Blue Hose Men’s Tennis and beginning the next chapter of his journey in the United States where he will be studying Business Management on a sports scholarship. 

Jesse was the very first junior player I worked with when I started development coaching career, and in many ways he helped shape the coach I am today. Jesse was one of the young players through the same programme at Southwark City Tennis Club (Burgess Park), which provided opportunities for young children from backgrounds where access to tennis wasn’t always easy.

Over the years we’ve shared some incredible experiences together. From national tournaments and Talent ID camps across the UK, to travelling internationally and watching Jesse win his first Junior ITF title in my hometown Uganda 🇺🇬. We also celebrated Tennis Europe titles in Ireland, creating memories that will stay with me forever.

While I’ve had the privilege of coaching and mentoring Jesse, he has also had a huge impact on my own journey. Every challenge, tournament and experience helped me grow as a coach and mentor.

What makes me most proud isn’t the rankings, titles or scholarship; it’s seeing the young boy I first met grow into an outstanding young man. His work ethic, commitment and determination have earned him this opportunity.

A special thank you to Jesse’s family, whose trust and support over the years has meant so much to me.

From two kids connected through a community tennis programme in South London to seeing Jesse earn a scholarship in the United States, this is proof of what can happen when talent meets opportunity.

Proud of you, Jesse. This is only the beginning.
