Sometimes talking to strangers pays off… stay with me.

A year ago, I got a DM from lisathomasadjei asking me to be a guest on her podcast. Then, a few weeks later, she asked if I’d travel to Jamaica to run a volleyball camp and rebuild a court 😅

Best. Yes. I’ve. Ever. Said.

The difference between my high school volleyball experience and many of the athletes I met through C.A.P. CORE isn't talent. It's consistent access to a court and a quality volleyball. Period.

Every day, athletes across Jamaica train in the hot sun on concrete and gravel courts, yet they’re still diving, still touching max height, and still hustling. Their resilience makes the mindset I encourage on this page and on ltbipod feel easy by comparison.

The contrast between the facilities many of us grew up with in the U.S. and what these athletes have is staggering.

On the second day of camp, we were fortunate to use one of the four indoor volleyball courts in all of Jamaica. Four.

In Westmoreland, we literally forged poles and mixed concrete into tires to create portable volleyball net systems that could withstand the outdoor elements.

These are challenges I never even had to think about. Ms. Lisa looked at the nearly finished court and said to me, "When the kids come back to school and see this, they will be overjoyed.”
Something so simple to us will make the world of difference to them.

At the end of camp in Kingston, the athletes asked about confidence, leadership, and what it takes to earn a college volleyball scholarship. They thanked us over and over not just for coaching them, but for believing in them.

This trip reminded me that access changes lives.

I’m excited to share more from Jamaica over the coming weeks, and I hope you’ll follow along. If you’re able, I’d also love your support as we work to expand CAP CORE into more communities and create more opportunities for young athletes. 💚🤍💛 #capcorejamaica #volleyball #vb #chegalathleticproject
