The non-runner’s guide to succeeding at Hyrox

You do not need to love running to get better at Hyrox.

But you do need to respect it.

There are eight kilometers of running in the race, so you cannot completely replace running with strength work, circuits, or stations.

The good news is that you do not need to build your entire aerobic engine by running.

Use the bike.

Use the rower.

Use the Ski Erg.

Build long, steady aerobic sessions that improve your fitness without adding more impact to your legs.

Then make the running you do more specific.

At least once a week, I would complete a Hyrox-style run session:

Run 1,000 meters.

Complete a station or short compromised effort.

Run again.

Repeat.

This teaches you how to find your pace after a station instead of spending every run trying to recover.

Your goal is not to suddenly become someone who loves running 50 miles a week.

Your goal is to build enough running durability for race day while developing the rest of your engine through lower-impact aerobic work.

You can prepare for Hyrox without becoming a traditional runner.

But you cannot prepare for Hyrox without becoming a better runner.
