On This Day, 33 Years Ago…

Tuesday 27th July 1993, the game was changed.

After finishing off my chest and biceps workout (which you can find on slide 3), I began some posing practice where Kevin Horton took these pics.
A few days later Kevin came round and showed me these developed pics and even I was astonished!

This year was all about defending my title and coming in even better; size and condition.

So looking here at the workout itself, it was 2 pressing exercises and I remember only doing 2 fly movements for chest, I remember doing pec deck probably for an extra pump and obviously it was before I broke the machine!
Just the 2 for biceps, you can see I wrote a little note where I had some strain/inflammation on my brachialis muscle.

My strength was still good at that time also, I found that 4-5 weeks out from the show, that’s when it started to decline as I was probably losing some muscle at that point too.

The rep range is generally pretty low, usually between 6-8 for upper body, but you can see I even went to 10 and 13 reps plus a few forced reps! The idea is to reach failure, if that’s in 6-8 reps then great, but if I feel like I can get more, I wouldn’t just suddenly decide to stop at say 9 reps for example if I had got 8 the previous week… I’d get as many as possible, nothing short of muscular failure.

6 weeks later, I’d retain the Olympia and a new standard would be set…
