There will be days when you have no real bias on a stock, and Jim Schultz says you do not have to pick one. You can trade neutral, selling premium on both sides of the market and leaning on time and volatility instead of direction. The two cleanest ways are a short strangle and an iron condor.

He breaks down the trade-off: the short strangle gives full exposure to time decay and room to adjust, but undefined risk on both sides. The iron condor caps that risk with long wings, so less credit and lower theta but a known worst case. His rule of thumb: beginners and small accounts start with iron condors.
