Congratulations to Acting Staff Sgt. Devon Archer on winning Ontario’s 2026 “Hero of the Year” award‼️🙏🏆

An Ottawa police officer is being honoured as Ontario’s 2026 “Hero of the Year” for helping local youth through sports, mentorship and writing programs.

Acting Staff Sgt. Devon Archer founded Ottawa Blues FC, which later expanded into the Ottawa Emergency Services League, bringing together police, firefighters, paramedics and other public safety partners. 

He also launched Junior Blues, where youth build confidence through physical activity, skill development and mentorship.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Archer created the “Grow a Writer” program to keep young people connected during a time of isolation. 

He is also the founder and president of the National Capital Blues Foundation, an Ottawa nonprofit supporting at-risk youth from diverse backgrounds.

Archer says he never expected the recognition and credits the team around him, saying, “It takes a village to do the work.”
