Marc Cucurella’s famous curls mean far more than football. According to reports, the Spanish defender keeps his hair long and loose during matches so his autistic son, Mateo, can easily recognize him on the pitch.

“I’d turn down any club for my son.”

Cucurella and his partner, Claudia Rodríguez, have openly shared the challenges their family faced after Mateo’s diagnosis, including finding the right schools, routines and specialist therapy.

He also considers his son’s needs before every career move, admitting that watching Mateo struggle makes him suffer too.

Behind one of football’s most recognizable looks is simply a father making sure his son can always find him, no matter how big the stage becomes.
