Desert Cactus Films Launches the Music Video Lab in Las Vegas

Las Vegas filmmakers and musicians have a new opportunity to collaborate thanks to Rachel Johnson and Danny Chandia, co-founders of Desert Cactus Films. Partnering with the Desert Waves Film & Music Festival, the duo is launching “The Music Video Lab”, a month-long filmmaking challenge designed to bring local directors and recording artists together to create original music videos under real production conditions. 

Applications close August 21 at 7:00 p.m. PDT, with selected participants announced on August 28. Teams will officially begin production on September 1 and have until September 30 to shoot and deliver an original music video. The finished projects will premiere during the Desert Waves Film & Music Festival on October 17–18, 2026.

More than a competition, “The Music Video Lab” is an investment in Las Vegas’ creative community. Participants will gain hands-on experience collaborating with fellow artists, working within production deadlines and building professional portfolios in an environment that mirrors the realities of the film industry.

As Las Vegas continues to grow as a production hub, initiatives like this are helping develop the next generation of filmmakers from the ground up. For aspiring directors, cinematographers and musicians, the Music Video Lab may be one of the city’s most exciting new creative opportunities.
