🕍 The Bhamdoun Synagogue, completed in 1922, is one of Lebanon’s most significant yet overlooked Jewish heritage landmarks. Built to serve Beirut’s Jewish families who spent their summers in the mountain resort of Bhamdoun, it became one of the country’s largest synagogues and was known as the “New Temple.” 

Despite the destruction that devastated much of Bhamdoun during the Lebanese Civil War, the synagogue remarkably survived, preserving architectural features such as its grand staircase, Hebrew tablets of the Ten Commandments, central bimah, and the Holy Ark niche. 

Today, although abandoned and in a state of decay, it stands as a powerful reminder of Lebanon’s once-diverse religious and cultural landscape and the vibrant Jewish community that once flourished in the country’s mountain towns.
