For more than three decades, Lemon Andersen and Flaco Navaja have stood among the most influential voices of the Nuyorican spoken-word movement. Through poetry, theater, music, and film, they have transformed the stories of Puerto Ricans in New York into unforgettable performances filled with humor, pain, resilience, and pride.

Their legendary collaboration reached audiences around the world on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, where they performed their iconic piece “Boricua.” More than a poem, it became a love letter to the Puerto Rican experience in New York—capturing the struggles, contradictions, and unbreakable spirit of a community that refuses to be forgotten.

Offstage, both artists have built remarkable careers. Lemon Andersen is a Tony Award-winning writer, actor, and playwright, celebrated for works like County of Kings. Flaco Navaja, affectionately known as the “Blue Collar Sonero,” has forged a unique path by blending spoken word with the timeless rhythms of salsa alongside his band, The Razor Blades.

Years after their unforgettable television debut, the two reunited at Barrio BX in the Bronx to perform “Boricua” once again, reminding a new generation why their words still resonate with such power.
