🧠 Research Spotlight: Migraine with Aura & Stroke Risk

A recent study published in Neurology found that adults aged 45 and older who experience migraine with aura may have a higher risk of ischemic stroke compared to people without migraine.

Researchers followed more than 11,000 adults for an average of 6.4 years. After accounting for other stroke risk factors, they found that participants with migraine with aura had a 73% higher risk of ischemic stroke than those without migraine. The study did not find an increased stroke risk among participants with migraine without aura.

It's important to remember that this study found an association, not that migraine with aura causes stroke. Many factors contribute to stroke risk, including high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, heart disease, and family history.
