France is bracing for its fourth major heatwave of the year, as soaring temperatures and tinder-dry conditions across the southwest pile pressure on crews battling a giant wildfire in the Bordeaux region.⁣

Drone footage filmed on Tuesday showed the morning sun shining through trees, revealing a mix of smoke and fog, charred trees and a burned landscape.⁣

Elsewhere, rubble and ash was everything that was left at the site where houses once stood.⁣

The area, southwest of the major city of Bordeaux, is covered by pine forests, which become highly flammable when dry. The fire has burned down 420 sq km so far.⁣
