Nine hundred years, same stone vats. Chouara Tannery, Fez  where leather is still made the way it was in the 11th century.

From the terrace above Chouara. Lime, pigeon droppings, poppy, saffron, indigo  no machines, no shortcuts. Fez, Morocco.

They hand you a sprig of mint at the door and you understand why within about four seconds. 

A colour palette built from flowers and stone. Nearly a millennium of it.
