My mom’s reaction to a mural of me in Mexico City. I am a proud Latina, born in Guadalajara, and I’m always so honored when I get to celebrate my roots with my community. I was selected out of 7,000 applicants from over 120 countries for my first mission to space during which we achieved psychological and technical objectives. As we approach the transition from a government-led to a private space industry, it’s important that these opportunities become available to countries and regions without a previous space presence. We’re currently working on developing space projects and initiatives to further expand opportunities across Latin America.
