👇🏼 Day 2 of our 4-Day Azores Itinerary for São Miguel Island 🇵🇹🌈🌿☀️

In this mini-series, we’re sharing exactly how we’d spend 4 days in São Miguel if it were our first time visiting.

Today, we’re heading out west for one of our favourite days on the island with beautiful viewpoints, a short hike overlooking the iconic lakes of Sete Cidades, and one of the best sunset spots in the Azores 🌅

Here’s how we suggest spending Day 2:

☕ Start with a coffee at a local spot, for example at Café Madruga
…then hit the road, and make your way out west 🚗
🌋 Pull over at Miradouro do Pico do Carvão for one of the best views on the island (we caught an incredible rainbow here 🌈)
🥾 Hike the Boca do Inferno trail overlooking Sete Cidades

Hike details:
• This is a short, relatively easy 2.6 km (1.6 miles) trail with one of the most rewarding views on the island
• ⚠️ Go early or check the forecast to make sure you have good weather for it. The weather can be pretty unreliable, so the webcams are gamechangers.

🏞️ Stop at Miradouro do Rei before lunch at Casa de Chá “O Poejo”
🛶 Optional: kayak on Lagoa Azul (we went with azoresforallcresacor)
🏖️ Relax at the black sand beach out west
🌅 Finish with sunset at Mosteiros

What to bring:
🥾 Hiking shoes (we use our columbia1938 and love them)
👙 Swimsuit + towel (for the beach and/or kayak)
🧴 Sunscreen
💧 Water + snacks
📸 Camera or phone for photos!
