Our final PRIDE highlight of #PrideMonth 2026, shines the spotlight on Micah Livsey (@thatssomicah23)! 🏳️‍🌈

Micah is a queer soccer player and is on the board of @ftsc_dc. He has been playing in DS leagues for 2 years and  is currently the co-captain of the @ftsc_unicorns (formerly DCPL, now Sun 9s D2), plays in Fruity Fives, and Summer of Freedom. Check out his responses to a short interview we had with him about his experience playing queer soccer in the District:

Q: “What does it mean to you to have a LGBTQ+ community to play soccer in here in DC?”

Micah: “I think it’s an amazing thing. Growing up playing soccer, I never thought an inclusive community like this could exist. I always felt like an outsider on my teams. Playing soccer my whole life was an escape from the daily stressors of life. It didn’t matter what I did, what I looked like, where I came from, or sometimes whether I could even speak the same language as everyone I played with. What did matter was our shared love of the game. I always felt complete on the field, but it wasn’t until I moved to the DMV area and joined Fruity Fives and The Unicorns that I experienced playing high-level soccer with other members of the LGBTQ+ community. Watching everyone be 100% themselves both on and off the field while sharing our love of the beautiful game unlocked another side of myself that I didn’t know was missing.”

Q: “What is your favorite memory of playing in a LGTBQ+ league/team here in DC?

Micah: “My favorite memory is probably captaining a Fruity Fives team to a championship win this past spring season. But more than that, it’s the community and the friends I’ve met along the way that have made playing every week something I genuinely look forward to. It’s a place where I and others can be unapologetically ourselves, both on and off the soccer field whether we’re competing on the pitch or having a kiki afterward.”
