From Germany’s fifth division to scoring on football’s biggest stage.

The journey of 𝑺𝑰𝑫𝑵𝒀 𝑳𝑶𝑷𝑬𝑺 𝑪𝑨𝑩𝑹𝑨𝑳 is built on belief, resilience and fearlessness.

Born in Rotterdam and proud of his Cape Verdean roots, Sidny climbed from the Oberliga to professional football, Portugal, Benfica, the Champions League and Trabzonspor.

Then came Argentina.

With Cabo Verde refusing to surrender, Sidny curled an unforgettable extra-time equalizer beyond Emiliano Martínez.

For a moment, every island stood still.

Then Cabo Verde and the entire diaspora erupted.

It was more than a goal. It showed the world that our small nation could stand face-to-face with a world champion and fight until the final moment.

“Nu sai ku kabesa levantadu. Es caminhada ka ta kaba li.”

We leave with our heads held high. This journey does not end here.

Thank you, 𝑺𝑰𝑫𝑵𝒀 𝑳𝑶𝑷𝑬𝑺 𝑪𝑨𝑩𝑹𝑨𝑳, for giving Cabo Verde a moment we will never forget.
