Have you heard? American black bears have recently been spotted in more parts of Alabama! 🐻

Bety, one of your Birmingham Zoo’s American black bears, has a few friendly reminders: 
If you spot a black bear, don’t approach or feed it, remember that it’s a wild animal. Black bears are typically shy and prefer to avoid people, so if you encounter one, stay calm, give it plenty of space, and let it move along. Keep your trash in a secure place and feed your pets inside if you can.

After all, this is their home too! Respecting their space lets black bears thrive in their natural habitat while helping keep both wildlife and people safe. 🖤
