📌 Nobody’s real job is “writing code” anymore. Mine stopped being that months ago - I just didn’t notice until recently.

Over 3 months in as a Tech Lead on AI features in e-commerce.

I used to measure a good day by how much I shipped. Now I measure it by how much I caught, planned and refined in parallel.

3 shifts I didn’t see coming:

→ The AI writes the first draft in seconds. My value isn’t typing anymore - it’s knowing which of the three “working” solutions we’ll regret in six months. ✅ Learn business knowledge of your project ASAP!

→ Speed made taste the bottleneck. When anyone can generate code, the rare skill is judgment: what to keep, what to throw away, what not to build at all. ✅ Learn that!

→ Reviewing became the real writing. I spend more time reading diffs than producing them - and that’s where the engineering actually lives now. 😎 Do you review your PRs at all??

Which is why I’ve stopped calling the people who thrive here “fast.” They’re not fast. ❤️ They’re discerning. The Review-First Engineer - someone whose main output is judgment, not keystrokes ✨
