Weeks before move-in, over 500 incoming Howard University howardu freshmen were disenrolled over payment and financial aid mix-ups — some over balances that were actually credits, not debts. ⁠

Now Gov. Wes Moore govwesmoore is stepping in for Howard University students who lost their spots this summer. The governor announced Thursday that Maryland will offer expedited admissions support and an $800 credit to any incoming student affected by Howard's mass disenrollment, according to the governor's official announcement. That gives families a real option just weeks before the fall semester starts.⁠

Maryland joins New York, which made a similar move for SUNY and CUNY schools earlier this week. Howard has reinstated 200+ students so far, but hundreds are still scrambling with less than three weeks until Howard's fall semester starts. ⁠
