Throughout their four years as a Campus Captain, University of Alberta tennis player Sonia Skobkareva has made their mark as a mental health advocate.👏 

When asked about their experience in the program, Sonia said: “THO has taught me the importance of collaboration, leaning on others for support, and always saying ‘yes’ to opportunities that push me outside of my comfort zone. What started as a passion for reducing the stigma surrounding student-athlete mental health has grown into a commitment to policy development and systemic change.” 

Sonia continued, “THO not only gave me the opportunity to discover the kind of leader I want to be, but also gave me a community, a sense of purpose, and the confidence to fight for meaningful change. I can’t wait to run it back for year five!” 

It has been such a privilege to watch Sonia grow into the leader, advocate, and person they are today, and we can’t wait to see what amazing things they do in the future. 💚
