To parishes, churches, synagogues, schools and families – and faith communities of every tradition – there is a place for you and your kids in Scouting America. 

These photos capture a glimpse of the Catholic mass service that Fr. Gerard Gentleman led at the National Jamboree over the weekend. Almost 20 faiths held services at the #NationalJamboree, and faith-based resources, prayers, devotionals, workshops, fellowship opportunities and spaces for personal reflection were available for Scouts, Scouters and others. 

At #ScoutingAmerica, duty to God is emphasized throughout our programs. However, Scouting does not replace the important role of families or religious communities – Scouting America is absolutely non-sectarian in its attitude toward a member’s religion or faith. Furthermore, our policy is that the home (and the organization with which the Scout is connected) shall give definite attention to religious life. 

Scouting does not replace the important role of families or religious communities. It reinforces that work, giving young people practical opportunities to connect their spiritual beliefs with leadership, service, citizenship and the choices they make every day. 

The adventures – camping, fishing, hiking, climbing – may bring young people to Scouting. Positive values – like duty to God and reverence – are built up in Scouts alongside and throughout those adventures. 

Today’s the day to start a conversation about what Scouting can bring to your parish, congregation, church, synagogue or community.
