Boston, look up tonight.

July’s full Buck Moon will rise over the city this evening, giving Boston another pretty solid reason to spend some time outside after sunset.

For the best view, find somewhere with an unobstructed look toward the southeastern horizon, where the moon will appear shortly after it rises. Waterfront spots and other open areas should give you the clearest shot.

You may also notice the moon looking particularly orange or golden near the horizon. That happens because its light travels through more of Earth’s atmosphere when it’s low in the sky.

The Buck Moon gets its name from this time of year, when male deer are typically growing their new antlers.
