Dr. Anthony Fauci declined to answer questions from the committee based on his constitutional Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

Republican lawmakers led by Sen. Rand Paul have accused Fauci of lying about research into the #COVID19 #pandemic and threatened to charge him with perjury if he lied at the hearing.

Before leaving office in 2025, former President Joe Biden had pardoned #Fauci for any of his actions dating to 2014. But Fauci could face charges going forward.

“On the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution,” Fauci said.
