Senior #TEXASMoody Public Relations major Kirstin Burns is adding a little extra pixie dust to her summer as a Marketplace and Portfolio Insights Intern with The Walt Disney Company, supporting the ABC Television Network in New York City!

As a Marketplace and Portfolio Insights Intern, Kirstin is gaining valuable experience by leveraging tools and systems to analyze consumer behavior, engaging with vendors and industry partners, and collaborating effectively in a professional team environment.

Through Texas Media and Analytics (TM&A), Kirstin found her passion for data analysis. From working with complex datasets to transforming raw numbers into actionable goals, she implements the skills she gained through her experience with TM&A everyday at her internship. As a part of the UTNYprogram, Kirstin chose this internship because she wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to work with one of the world’s largest media conglomerates.

Kirstin’s advice for current students looking for internships is to make as many connections as you can. Whether it’s a quick message on LinkedIn or talking with your professors, she emphasizes the importance of networking and letting your personality shine.

“Building genuine connections is one of the most important parts of the job search process...Employers already know you’re capable so show them that you’re someone they’d enjoy working with as well.”

Although Kirstin celebrated her graduation this past May, she will officially complete her degree requirements for her B.S. in Public Relations in August! She plans to remain in New York City beyond graduation to complete her six-month program with The Walt Disney Company. 

“This summer, I have learned that I truly enjoy living in New York City and experiencing a completely different environment from Texas...a place where you can feel anonymous while still being part of something much bigger than yourself.”
