A single-engine Piper Cherokee came down just outside Chandler Municipal Airport Tuesday night and the pilot didn’t make it.

The 911 call went out around 7:50 p.m. reporting a plane down near McQueen and Queen Creek. Chandler Fire had to work with the airport control tower to figure out exactly where it landed. They found the plane with one person on board. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Nobody on the ground was hurt and there were no road closures.

He still hasn’t been identified and no cause has been released. The NTSB is running the investigation with the FAA and had an investigator in Chandler this morning documenting the wreckage before it gets hauled to a secure facility. They’ll be pulling tower recordings, radar data, weather, maintenance records and whatever witnesses can give them.

That last part is where you come in. If you were near Queen Creek and McQueen Tuesday evening and saw the plane come down, or you’ve got a camera on a business or a house pointed that direction, investigators want it. Email witness@ntsb.gov.
