Two people are recovering in Chandler after three men allegedly forced their way into their home at 6 in the morning.

It happened June 6 near Arizona Avenue and Elliot Road. According to court paperwork, an elderly man called police to say people had broken into his house and shot one of his daughters. Investigators say at least two men forced their way in and struck him in the head with a gun, then demanded his car keys. His daughter, who has a disability from a traumatic brain injury, was shot and taken to the hospital. Her father was hospitalized too. Both were expected to survive, and family later said they’ve been recovering at home. The suspects drove off in his Mercedes.

Court documents say the same group had robbed someone twenty minutes earlier. A rideshare driver had pulled up near that intersection when five men with tattoos tried to get in. He told them they wouldn’t all fit, an argument started, and police say one of them hit him in the head with a firearm and held him at gunpoint while another took his watch and phone.

Two of the suspects were intercepted near Nogales two days later, heading for Mexico.

On June 17, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced indictments against Jesus Sandoval, 18, Jorge Jurado Martinez, 17, and Kevin Tristan, 17. Both 17 year olds are charged as adults. Sandoval and Jurado Martinez face two counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated robbery, three counts of aggravated assault and burglary, most of them class two and class three dangerous felonies. Tristan faces burglary, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. Sandoval is held on a $250,000 bond.

Three more men were indicted for felony hindering prosecution. Pete Canez, 65, Robert Rosas, 59, and Anthony Rosas, 39, are accused of helping two of the suspects try to get across the border.

That last part is the piece people keep getting stuck on. Three grown men, 39, 59 and 65, accused of driving two teenagers toward Mexico. What do you make of that?
